Post-Operative Care

You will need post-operative examinations one day,
2-3 weeks and three months after your LASIK surgery to evaluate your eyes’ healing process and to make sure you have no infection.

Post-Operative Instructions

You must lie down and close your eyes for the first two hours after surgery, For the first 24 hours, do not read, watch television or do any computer work. Use eye shields when you sleep so you won’t accidentally rub your eyes. You will have a mild burning sensation two to four hours after surgery as the eye sedative wears off. Tylenol, Advill or Ibuprofen will help relieve this discomfort.

Wear sunglasses that will be provided for the first 24 hours after the surgery whenever you are outside. After 24 hours, wear your own sunglasses for the next seven days when outside to protect your eyes from outside elements. Take baths, not showers, for the first 48 hours following surgery. For at least the first week, don’t allow the shower to spray directly on your face so that you can prevent any possible injuries to your eyes. Use a face cloth to wash your face and don’t rub your eyes. After the first week, you may wash your face normally.

Avoid any eye makeup of any kind for one week.  You may wear lotions and lipsticks.

Avoid smoky or dusty environments for one week. If you are exposed to these types of environments, apply additional lubrication with the artificial tears.

Avoid any alcohol consumption for 48 hours after surgery as alcohol increases your eye dryness and will restrict the healing process.
